Svalbard Museum, located at the University Centre in Longyearbyen, celebrates the culture and natural history of this fascinating Norwegian archipelago.
The museum has several exhibitions that display 1,000s of historical artefacts, archaeological finds, archival books and photographs. The collection stretches from the present day all the way back to the first discovery of the region.
You can learn about the ecology of the region’s marine life, the settlement of Spitsbergen, its whaling history, hunting and trapping, as well as geology and mining. You’ll go on a journey through the eras, enjoying a total immersion in Svalbard’s unique history.
