Reviews

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Thanks!

We loved staying at the Basecamp Trapper's hotel.  The place was really interesting and the staff very nice.  We pass along a special thanks to Lise at the hotel for her exceptional customer service and friendly personality. We also enjoyed the trip to Isfjord Radio, our wonderful guide Harri, and the great meals they served.  Our 2 hour maxibus trip around Longyearbyen the day we arrived was a good introduction to the area.
We made 2 changes to the package tour itinerary, and they ended up being the best parts of the trip.  The first was a hike to Trollsteinen, which we included in our itinerary from the beginning, and it was amazing (for those who love to hike). The second was a change we made at the last minute.  On our last day we were signed up for an ATV trip, but it would have been to basically the same place we had seen the first day on the maxibus trip.  We heard about a 10-hour boat trip to Pyramiden and Nordenskjoldbreen and booked it the night before. We loved this trip, with all we learned and the opportunity to see more of Spitsbergen. It added so much to our Svalbard experience, and we were so grateful we added this in. Something else that we really enjoyed on our trip was the Svalbard museum. It is very well done and we appreciated what we learned here. We have now used Nordic Visitor for 3 different trips.  We keep coming back to you because you take such good care of us and give us the trips we want. Thanks!

Tour Information

We recommend that all our travellers read through the following information about what the tour includes, crucial information about flights to Svalbard, and useful information about the activities that are included during the tour.

INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SVALBARD TOURS
All accommodation and planned activities (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor. This is a self-guided tour, with no dedicated tour guide for the duration of your stay. For each planned activity, you can expect a different tour operator and guide, and you will have free time between activities. Nordic Visitor works with a small group of handpicked suppliers that are highly rated and deliver excellent service that meets our high standards.

AGE MINIMUM & FITNESS LEVEL
Please note that there is an age minimum of 10 years old. Participants should be in good general health for this tour.

The dogsledding on wheels tour is an active excursion. You will be supervised by a professional guide. This tour is not suitable for people suffering from back pain or for pregnant women.

ISFJORD RADIO ADVENTURE HOTEL
Isfjord Radio is a wilderness hotel. Please note that to move outside you need a guide with a rifle for Polar bear protection. Located far from civilisation on the outermost part of the Isfjord on the Nordenskiöld coast, the Basecamp Isfjord Radio at Kapp Linné is the perfect place to enjoy Svalbard’s serenity and natural beauty. Once a radio station, this newly-renovated hotel offers 22 charming double rooms with shared bathrooms, a dining room, and lounge with a fireplace.

Pack as little as possible when staying over at the Isfjord Radio Adventure Hotel. We recommend a waterproof backpack of around 35-42 litres. Your larger luggage can be stored at your hotel in Longyearbyen while you are out exploring.

FLIGHTS TO SVALBARD
The flights to and from Svalbard are not included in the tour package. We would be happy to assist you with the flights from Oslo or Tromsø and adding optional pre or post nights to the two cities for your visit.

Please note that due to the flight schedule between Svalbard and Norway, travellers are urged to spend the night in either Oslo or Tromsø before and after the trip. The weather can also be unpredictable, so extra nights are always recommended.

VISITING NORWAY TOO?
This tour can be customised, including additional nights in Oslo, Tromsø, or Longyearbyen on request. We can also combine this tour with other packages we offer in Norway. Please click here or contact us for details.

WEATHER & CLIMATE
The summer climate in Svalbard is generally mild with average temperatures of 5 to 9° Celsius. However, Arctic conditions can cause sudden weather changes so it is recommended to bring warm, weatherproof outerwear along with thermal layers and good walking boots. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also recommended due to the long daylight exposure. A list of necessary personal items will be provided before arriving. For more information about weather conditions, please refer to our Svalbard travel guide.

Please note that the itinerary and activities can change without notice due to Arctic weather conditions. In the unlikely event that an activity is cancelled due to weather, an alternative will be offered.
