Arrive at Svalbard Airport followed by an airport shuttle bus transfer to your accommodation for the night. After check-in, you have the rest of the day to explore Longyearbyen. We recommend a visit to the Svalbard Museum to learn more about the region’s history as a hunting and mining outpost. In the morning, you’ll board a cruise ship for an exciting day cruise along Isfjorden (“ice fjord”). Enjoy Crossing the fjord, enjoy a tasty lunch as the boat approaches the impressive Esmark glacier in the Bay of Ymir.

Later, there’ll be a stop at the old Russian mining settlement of Barentsburg. Here you’ll learn about the history and daily life of this little slice of Russia in Svalbard. You’ll have some free time to explore before returning to the ship.

On the way back to Longyearbyen, there will also be stops at the deserted Russian settlements in Coles Bay and Grumant. This day tour is a fantastic opportunity for bird and wildlife watchers. In summer, thousands of birds breed on the magnificent cliffs of Fuglefjellet.

    Spend the night in Longyearbyen.

Enjoy breakfast before joining a fun Arctic summer activity—a husky safari on wheels! In the morning, the guide picks you up and takes you to the kennel, where around 90 Alaskan huskies eagerly wait for you. After a short lesson on the logistics of “mushing”, it’s your turn to harness your team of huskies and go for a ride.

Spend the rest of the day relaxing in Longyearbyen with a stroll around town, a visit to the Svalbard Gallery or Svalbard Museum. You can also enjoy a leisurely break at a cafe, or a bit of souvenir shopping.

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Thank you!

Sindre is great to work with! We had done some research and were having a bit to trouble understanding fully how to go about booking a brewery tour or what flexibility we might have. He helped us navigate through to booking this! To be completely honest that tour was why we chose Svalbard so helping to confirm that made our trip a huge success! Thank you! That little bit of extra service is hugely appreciated and does not go unnoticed!

Kolbrun was absolutely fantastic! My hotel was amazing and all the tour guides were incredible. I had the most amazing time.

Sleep soundly, in the accommodation type of your choice, and wake up ready to enjoy another day of exploration.

Tour Information

We recommend that all our travellers read through the following information about what the tour includes, crucial information about flights to Svalbard, and useful information about the activities that are included during the tour.

All accommodation and planned activities (as specified in the itinerary) will be pre-booked by Nordic Visitor. This is a self-guided tour, with no dedicated tour guide for the duration of your stay. For each planned activity, you can expect a different tour operator and guide, and you will have free time between activities. Nordic Visitor works with a small group of handpicked suppliers that are highly rated and deliver excellent service that meets our high standards.

Please note that there is an age minimum of 10 years old. Participants should be in good general health for this tour.

The dog-sledding on wheels tour is an active excursion. You will be supervised by a professional guide. This tour is not suitable for people suffering from back pain or for pregnant women.

The flights to and from Svalbard Islands are not included. We would be happy to assist you with the flights from Oslo or Tromsø and adding optional pre or post nights the two cities for your visit.

Please note that due to the flight schedule between Svalbard and Norway, travellers are urged to spend the night in either Oslo or Tromsø before and after the trip. The weather can also be unpredictable, so extra nights are always recommended.

This tour can be customised, including additional nights in Oslo, Tromsø, or Longyearbyen on request. We can also combine this tour with the tours and packages we offer in Norway. Click here or contact us for details.

The summer climate in Svalbard is generally mild with average temperatures of 5 to 9° Celsius. However, Arctic conditions can cause sudden weather changes so it is recommended to bring warm, weatherproof outerwear along with thermal layers and good walking boots. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also recommended due to the long daylight exposure. A list of necessary personal equipment will be provided before arriving. For more information about weather conditions, please refer to our Svalbard travel guide.

Please note that the itinerary and activities can change without notice due to Arctic weather conditions. In the unlikely event that an activity is cancelled due to weather, an alternative will be offered.
