  • Day 1: WELCOME TO 78° NORTH!

Arrive at Longyear Airport in Svalbard followed by a shuttle transfer to your accommodation for the night. After check-in, you are picked up for a 2-hour guided sightseeing tour around the area through Longyear valley and Adventdalen towards Mine 7 as well as the airport area and Hotellneset. In the evening, we recommend dinner at the charming Restaurant Kroa or the legendary Huset Restaurant.

    Spend the night in Longyearbyen.

In the morning, board a cruise ship for an exciting 9-10 hour expedition cruise in Isfjorden (the Ice Fjord). Crossing the fjord, we approach the impressive Esmark glacier in the Bay of Ymir as we enjoy a tasty lunch. We then make our way towards the old Russian mining settlement of Barentsburg, where we are welcomed and entertained by a local guide. After learning about the history and daily life of this little slice of Russia, you have some free time to explore or relax before returning to the ship. On our way back to Longyearbyen, we stop by the deserted Russian settlements in Coles Bay and Grumant. This tour also offers birdwatchers an excellent opportunity to view thousands of breeding birds at the magnificent cliffs of Fuglefjellet. Later, the ship returns to Longyearbyen, where you can enjoy dinner at a restaurant of your choice.

    Spend the night in Longyearbyen.

Spend your day relaxing in Longyearbyen with a stroll around town, a visit to the Svalbard Gallery, a leisurely break at a cafe, or a bit of souvenir shopping. Or, if you seek something more adventurous, you can book an optional activity from your hotel. We recommend a hiking tour in the mountains surrounding Longyearbyen.

    Spend the night in Longyearbyen.

Before you say goodbye, you have time for one more Arctic activity—a husky safari on wheels! In the morning, your guide picks you up and takes you to the kennel at the Trapper’s Station in Bolterdalen, where around 90 cheerful Alaskan huskies eagerly wait for you to take them for a run. After a short lesson on the principles of “mushing”, it’s your turn to harness your team of huskies and go for a ride. After the tour, you are returned to town with time to freshen up before your departure. In the afternoon, take the shuttle bus to Longyear Airport for your return flight to Oslo, from where you will continue to your final destination.

We don’t like to brag, so we’ll let our happy customers do it for us.

Kolbrun was absolutely fantastic! My hotel was amazing and all the tour guides were incredible. I had the most amazing time.

Thank you!

Sindre is great to work with! We had done some research and were having a bit to trouble understanding fully how to go about booking a brewery tour or what flexibility we might have. He helped us navigate through to booking this! To be completely honest that tour was why we chose Svalbard so helping to confirm that made our trip a huge success! Thank you! That little bit of extra service is hugely appreciated and does not go unnoticed!

Sleep soundly, in the accommodation type of your choice, and wake up ready to enjoy another day of exploration.

Tour Information

Our travel consultants can assist with booking air travel between Oslo or Tromsø and Longyearbyen. If needed, we can also book accommodation in Oslo or Tromsø.
This tour can be customized, including additional nights in Oslo, Tromsø, or Longyearbyen on request. We can also combine this tour with other tours in Norway or other Nordic countries. Contact us for details.
  • Due to flight times between Svalbard and Norway, travellers are urged to spend the night in either Oslo or Tromsø before and after the trip.
  • The summer climate in Svalbard is generally mild with average temperatures of 5 to 9° Celsius. However, Arctic conditions can cause sudden weather changes so it is recommended to bring warm, weatherproof outerwear along with thermal layers and good walking boots. Sunglasses and sunscreen are also recommended due to the long daylight exposure from the midnight sun. A list of necessary personal equipment will be provided before arriving.
  • The itinerary can change without notice due to Arctic weather conditions.
  • This tour is not suitable for young children.
Environmental protection and tourism in Svalbard:
“You are welcome to return to Svalbard when no one has noticed you’ve already been here.” Svalbard’s vegetation is very exposed, particularly due to the permafrost, and destruction of flora can leave a lasting scar on the landscape. All vegetation is therefore protected and all traces of human activity up to 1945 are regarded as cultural monuments. Svalbard’s Environmental Act strictly regulates travel on Svalbard, so if you are planning a trip alone outside of Administration Area 10 (central parts of Spitsbergen), you must inform the Ombudsman and show proof of insurance.
Polar bears and visitor safety in Svalbard:
The polar bear is probably the foremost symbol of Svalbard’s wildlife and it is a truly exhilarating experience to see them in their natural habitat. Keep in mind that Svalbard prohibits coaxing, pursuing, or disturbing polar bears in such a way that endangers humans or the bears themselves. Attacks on humans, though rare, can be lethal. Therefore, on all guided tours and activities, visitor safety is overseen by experienced guides who carry shotguns at all times and let off warning shots if needed. The authorities in Svalbard, together with the joint travel industry, encourage participation in organised, guided activities in order to protect both visitors and polar bears.

All bookings are charged in Euros (EUR). Prices displayed in other currencies are indicative only and based on the daily exchange rate. Therefore, conversions from EUR to other currencies will fluctuate from day to day.
