Activity centre near Tromsø offering a taste of Sami culture and light outdoor adventures
Located outside the city of Tromsø on the island of Kvaløya (“Whale Island”), the Tromsø Friluftsenter provides visitors with an introduction to Northern Norway’s Sami culture, as well as the chance to experience numerous outdoor activities year-round.
Some of the activities available include hearing Sami folklore in a traditional lavvu (a Sami tent), learning about traditional Sami reindeer herding – even helping to feed the reindeer – and tobogganing and snowshoeing under the northern lights. Summer visitors can enjoy the midnight sun and embark on RIB boat adventures.
A visit to the Tromsø Friluftsenter includes light refreshments, professional guiding and transfers (30 minutes each way to and from the city). Activities must be booked in advance; ask your Nordic Visitor travel consultant for details.
