If you really want the authentic experience of Norway, do as the recreation-loving Norwegians do and hit the trails. In Oslo, the locals flock to the Nordmarka woodlands for hiking, running, biking and picnics in summer, and sledding and cross-country skiing in winter.
Located north of the famous Holmenkollen Ski Jump, it’s about 20 minutes by car from the city centre and various trailheads are also accessible by public transit. Some good starting points into the forest include Holmenkollen, Frognerseteren, Sørkedalen and Sognsvann. For a free simple map of the area, visit the Oslo Vistor Centre.
