Hiking, history and handmade jewellery
Lom is a picturesque village in Jotunheimen, nicknamed the “Home of the Giants”, surrounded by Norway’s tallest peaks. With a rich mountaineering history and easy access to incredible hikes, it offers both heritage and modern outdoor activities, and makes an ideal stop before exploring Jotunheimen National Park.
Lom is also well known for its impressive 12th-century stave church. Built from wood with dragon-head carvings and steep roofs, it remains one of the largest and best-preserved stave churches in Norway.
Geology enthusiasts will love a visit to the Fossheim Mineral Museum ("Fossheim Steinsenter") for its collection of gemstones, minerals, handmade jewellery and fossils. During the high season, they even leave a pile of off-cuts outside for visitors to help themselves to.
