A day-by-day plan to guide your journey.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Copenhagen

    Welcome to Copenhagen! After clearing customs and collecting your luggage, make your way to your accommodation. You can take the train, metro or bus into the city centre, or you can hop in a taxi. Or, for a direct and comfortable ride, we can organise a private airport transfer for you.

    After settling into your hotel, you could take a walk along the enchanting old harbour area Nyhavn. This famous district is lined with colourful houses and lively restaurants beside rows of docked boats.

    From here, you can easily explore the highlights of this iconic city. Walk the narrow side streets, visit some charming shops, and try a delicious and traditional open-faced sandwich, smørrebrød.

    In the evening, visit the Tivoli Gardens amusement park. It’s a lovely place to admire traditional architecture and enjoy some carnival rides.

  • Day 2: The Charms of Copenhagen

    You have time to explore the enchanting streets of Copenhagen today. The best way to explore is on foot, so head back to the cobblestoned streets of the city centre.

    There are many regal landmarks, including Amalienborg Palace and Christiansborg Palace. Be sure to walk past the famous Little Mermaid statue by the waterfront.

    Do some souvenir shopping along Ströget street and grab something delicious to eat at Torvehallerne food hall.

    Later, it’s time to board your DFDS cruise to Oslo. The ship will sail you up the Kattegat Sund on its way to Norway’s capital city. Enjoy dinner at an on-board restaurant, check out the entertainment or just relax and watch the sunset from the deck.

  • Day 3: Enjoy Enchanting Oslo

    Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board as the ship docks in vibrant Oslo. You then have the whole day to explore Norway’s capital.

    First, take a stroll along the Karl Johans gate main street. Then make your way along the Aker Brygge marina and past the beautiful Oslo Opera House. You could visit the beautiful Vigeland Sculpture Park or tour the Royal Palace. Explore the Akershus fortress and view Oslo City Hall.

    Other attractions include the Fram Museum, displaying a polar exploration ship, and the collection of works by Edvard Munch at the Munch Museum.

  • Day 4: Journey from Oslo to Bergen

    Today, you’ll embark on your journey from Oslo to Bergen. You’ll travel by train through dramatic landscapes, witnessing majestic fjords, cascading waterfalls, and charming villages.

    Upon arrival in Bergen’s charming city centre, leave your luggage at your hotel and spend the afternoon strolling through the city and discovering the sights.

    You won’t want to miss the old wharf, Bryggen. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with centuries-old houses, a vibrant fish and flower market and an interesting range of museums. For spectacular views of Bergen, you could take the Floibanen funicular up the mountainside.

    This evening, you will meet your guide and travelling group for a welcome drink. Tonight, you’ll dine on your own in Bergen.

  • Day 5: Exploring the majestic fjords route

    This morning your guide picks you up to start your fjord adventure! Travel north to Norway’s adventure capital, Voss, where you’ll see the beautiful Tvindefossen waterfall. Your journey continues to Sogndal by the Sognefjord – Norway’s longest and deepest fjord.

    You’ll then reach the beautiful Aurlandsfjord, from where you will embark on the famous Flåm Railway, or Flåmsbana. It is a steep train ride (one of the steepest in the world!) that climbs up from Flåm to Myrdal in the mountains.

    After the scenic ride, you will make a stop at Stegastein, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the fjord below. End the day with a local and fresh dinner at your accommodation.

  • Day 6: Sognefjellet National Tourist Route & the Skywalk

    Hop aboard a ferry to visit Urnes, one of the oldest stave churches in Norway, which is included on UNESCO’s World Heritage list.

    Your guide will then continue north along Lustrafjorden to the famous National Tourist Route “Sognefjellsvegen”. This route is the highest and most impressive mountain pass in Northern Europe. The landscape reveals vast, towering mountains as it crosses the Jotunheimen National Park.

    You will then head to Dalsnibba to visit the Geiranger Skywalk, Europe’s highest fjord viewpoint accessible by road. Enjoy the sweeping views of Geirangerfjord, as well as across to the mountains and the mighty Blåbreen glacier. The journey then continues to the village of Geiranger where you will enjoy dinner with the group.

  • Day 7: Explore the majestic Geirangerfjord

    Spend the morning at your leisure in Geiranger. With its fairytale landscape, Geiranger has a lot to offer for nature lovers, from wild waterfalls to lush green vegetation. You can go hiking or kayaking, hop on a rib boat safari, relax at the nearby spa or visit the chocolate factory in town.

    This afternoon, it’s back on the road! You’ll journey to Loen aboard a ferry sailing through the UNESCO-protected Geirangerfjord. Along the way you can spot famous waterfalls like the Seven Sisters, the Suitor, and the Bridal Veil, as well as abandoned fjord farms in the mountains. The sightseeing cruise ends in the small village of Hellesylt. When you reach Loen, you will enjoy dinner at your accommodation.

  • Day 8: Loen Skylift & twisty roads

    You will start the morning by boarding the magnificent Loen Skylift. This cable car will take you to the altitude of 1,011 metres (3,300 feet) with amazing views of the fjord below. Then, the tour continues towards Byrkjelo village where you will make a short pit stop.

    You will then travel south along the scenic lakes Jølstravatnet and Haukedalsvatnet, before taking the scenic route of Gaularfjellet, which is full of twists and turns with 9 hairpin bends. You’re in for some jaw-dropping scenery. You will also make a short stop at the Utsikten viewpoint to admire the panoramic views of towering mountains and lush valleys. 

    Then you’ll arrive at your accommodation for the night, where you will enjoy the last group dinner.

  • Day 9: Journey back to Bergen

    Start today with a visit to the Cider House, a family-run organic orchard and cider producer, located in the village of Balestrand. Here you’ll enjoy a tour of the farm and be able to sample some cider and non-alcoholic beverages.

    Later, you will start the journey back to Bergen. First is a short ferry crossing from Balestrand to Vangsnes. Then you will pass Vikøyri village where you find Hove Church, the oldest stone building in the Sogn region. You will be driven over Vik mountain to Myrkdalen, the centre of agriculture for the region featuring a beautiful cultivated landscape. Your guide will drop you off at your accommodation and you can spend the evening in Bergen at your leisure.

    When it’s time for your Norwegian adventure to come to an end, you can either take a taxi from your accommodation to the airport or hop on the airport bus. If your flight is in the afternoon, you can choose to enjoy some last-minute shopping in Bergen, visit one more attraction or simply relax in a local café, enjoying the last few moments of this amazing journey.

We recommend that you read carefully through the following information before booking this guided group tour of Scandinavia. We’ve answered the most frequently asked questions here, so you know what to expect. You’ll also find more practical advice and attraction recommendations in our online Scandinavia Travel Guide.

After your stay in Copenhagen, you’ll travel to Oslo on an overnight cruise. You’ll depart in the mid-afternoon and arrive in Norway the following morning.

We’ll book you a private cabin with ensuite facilities and a small window. In the morning before docking in Oslo, your breakfast is included.

There are 2 ships operating the route, Pearl Seaways and Crown Seaways. On board both, you will find facilities such as lounges, restaurants, bars and a viewing deck. There are also daily activities and entertainment to enjoy. 

On a small guided group tour of Norway, you can enjoy the spectacular scenery and immerse yourself in the local culture knowing all the details are taken care of. Nordic Visitor will arrange all your local transportation, accommodation and daily excursions.

You’ll be travelling with a knowledgeable local guide and a group of like-minded travellers. The itinerary will be pre-planned and booked for you before you arrive. This means you can land in Norway then relax as all the hassle is taken out of your travel experience.

If you can't select a certain day, this means there are no departures available then. In that situation, please get in touch and one of our travel consultants will look into the options for you.

Due to the nature of this tour and the activities included, it’s not recommended for families with young children. That said, it is suitable for active children aged 12 years or older. If in doubt, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us.

To make sure you and your fellow travellers have a comfortable journey, we need to limit the size and amount of luggage in the bus. 

Each guest can bring one suitcase or large bag that can be stored in the back of the minibus and one smaller item (e.g., a backpack or daypack) to keep inside the van for daily essentials like camera, wallet, medications and so forth. Unfortunately carry-on suitcases (cabin bags) are too large to store in the van’s overhead racks.

As you’ll be travelling as part of a guided group tour, your itinerary for this portion of your trip is set. But you can still customise other parts of your package.

For example, you could add extra nights in the city before or after the guided tour. Ask your personal travel consultant about adding extra nights or services.

Yes! It’s easy to include a visit to Oslo at the end of your guided group tour. That way you can discover Norway’s charming capital city at your leisure, for one last dose of culture before you leave.

During the booking steps of your tour, take a look at our “Post-night in Oslo” add-ons. We’ll book you into convenient accommodation in the city centre, and you’ll enjoy breakfast included.

To reach Oslo, we will also book you a train ticket from Bergen, included in the cost. This scenic ride will be something to remember! You’ll also receive an extended personal itinerary for your extra days.

You will also be able to choose between single and double rooms. Please note that across Scandinavia room types are based on European standard sizes, which means they are smaller than in North America.

For example, a double room often consists of a double bed or 2 single beds pushed together. Twin rooms have 2 separate single beds. Single rooms are often smaller than the standard double.

Your guided group tour will include a fair amount of walking for sightseeing. The best way to explore the towns and cities you’ll be visiting is on foot, so this tour is ideal for people who can walk between 3-5 kilometres (2-3 miles) a day.

You’ll also need to be able to carry your own luggage at accommodation and in and out of transport.

At your booked hotels and cruises, you’ll enjoy a daily breakfast buffet for the duration of this tour.

You’ll also have some dinners included throughout the guided portion of this tour, as stated in your itinerary. They will consist of either a set 2 or 3-course menu, or a dinner buffet with fresh local ingredients.

Drinks are not included with your dinners.

Please notify your travel consultant in advance of any dietary restrictions. Other meals and drinks are not included and will be at your own expense during the trip.

The amount of spending money you need will depend on the standard of restaurants you decide to go to.

That said, we recommend budgeting between 100–400 NOK for lunch per person, each day. Dinners at casual restaurants might cost between 500–1,000 NOK. Meanwhile, at upscale restaurants, you can expect to pay 1,500 NOK or more. This does not include the cost of alcoholic beverages.

If you have a passport from Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia or New Zealand, you won’t need a visa to visit Scandinavia. This visa-free entry is valid for up to 90 days.

Visiting from another country? You might need to apply for a Schengen visa. You can find out whether you require a visa to enter on the Sweden Government website or the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. You’ll need to apply to the consulate of the country where you will spend the most time, or the first country you will visit.

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from your departure from the region. It’s good to check your passport expiry date early in case you need to renew it.

The capitals of Scandinavia are located quite far north in Europe so you can expect long daylight hours throughout summer.

In Helsinki, Finland, and Stockholm, Sweden, you can expect between 16 and 19 hours of daylight depending on how close you are to the solstice. Copenhagen in Denmark is slightly more south, so you’ll enjoy 14-17 daylight hours.

In Norway, Oslo, Bergen and Stavanger are relatively south, so you’ll experience 15–20 hours of daylight. If you visit the north, including locations such as Tromsø and Kirkenes, you can expect 20–24 hours of daylight.

The region’s long summer days give you plenty of time to explore. That said, you may want to pack a sleeping mask if you are a light sleeper or tend to wake up at dawn.

If you visit later in the season, the days will have the autumn daylight you might expect at home. This means sunrises between 6 and 8:30 AM and sunsets going from 7-8 PM down to 4-5 PM in late October.

During the summer months, you can expect fairly stable weather across Scandinavia.

The months of June, July and August boast the warmest weather of the year. In Stockholm, Copenhagen and Oslo you can expect average temperatures between 17–20°C (61–68°F). This gets cooler in Bergen and then up the north coast of Norway. For example, Tromsø has average summer temperatures around 10°C (41–50°F).

In May and September, you can also expect milder conditions. Pack for temperatures closer to 11–14°C (52–57°F). If you visit in October, expect lows between 3-5°C (37–41°F).

All that said, it’s good to know that weather conditions are often changeable in Northern Europe. This means you should come ready for sun, rain and wind whenever you visit. For more information on the local climate, read our page on Scandinavian weather conditions.

Please note that sightseeing is dependent on weather and road conditions. This means that your itinerary might need to be altered if these conditions are not favourable during your visit.

As mentioned, Scandinavia experiences changeable weather. That means you should be ready to experience all seasons in one day, even in summer.

Whenever you visit, you’re likely to spend a lot of time outdoors enjoying the views and sights. So you’ll want to pack for a combination of weather conditions.

Here is an essential packing list for your trip to Scandinavia:

  • T-shirts and long sleeve tops
  • At least one warm jumper or fleece
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Light gloves, hat and scarf
  • Comfortable walking or hiking shoes
  • Sunglasses, sun hat and sunscreen
  • Eye mask to sleep during the summer’s long daylight hours
  • Electronic gear such as smartphone, external powerpack, and travel adapters
  • Binoculars if you’re a wildlife enthusiast
  • A small umbrella
  • A backpack for easy access to daily essentials
  • and don’t forget your camera!

If you’re visiting at the height of summer, bring lighter clothes for the warmer, sunny days. And don’t forget extra layers for chilly nights in the mountains or for taking in the view from cruise ship decks.

After you have booked your tour, it will only take a few days to confirm its availability. But it may take a few weeks to create your itinerary and book everything. Once your trip details are finalised, we’ll send you e-copies of your travel documents.

So when do you check in? And what can you expect when you land in Denmark?

After picking up your luggage, you’ll make your way to your accommodation. Public transport is easy to access and convenient in Denmark. Or you could catch a taxi.

Check-in times vary between hotels and guesthouses, but it normally starts between 2–4 PM.

You are welcome to request an early check-in for an additional fee. Although this isn’t always available, you’ll be able to store your luggage at the hotel until check-in. Please contact your travel consultant well in advance of your trip if you’d like an early check-in.

When you depart may depend on the time of your return flight. Check out early if you’re heading to the airport for a morning flight. On the other hand, if you’re flying home later in the day, you might like to enjoy a leisurely day or visit one more attraction.

You will usually need to check out from your room around 10–11 AM. If you’re staying in town longer, you will be able to store your luggage at the hotel reception. Simply return later to collect your bags before making your way to the airport.
