Itinerary
Day 1: Welcome to Lapland and Quest for the Northern Lights
Your exciting winter holiday begins at Kiruna Airport, where you are welcomed by our local staff and transferred to your hotel in Kiruna, Sweden’s northernmost city. As dusk settles, the guide prepares you for an exciting guided snowmobile trip into the wild to explore Lapland’s amazing Northern Lights*. Later, after enjoying a delicious Lappish dinner, you are returned to your hotel where the evening is yours to relax and enjoy your peaceful surroundings. * Please note that the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) are a natural phenomenon and therefore sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Day 2: Husky Adventure and ICEHOTELTour
After breakfast at your hotel enjoy a thrilling dogsled ride and experience the breathtaking wilderness of Lapland. A skilled “musher” provides a basic lesson on how to interact with your dogs and the equipment; then you have full control of the reins for the exhilarating wilderness journey! Afterwards, relax with a hot coffee during a break around the campfire.
In the afternoon, visit the ICEHOTEL and Ice Church in nearby Jukkasjärvi to enjoy a guided tour about the history of this fascinating hotel. The ICEHOTEL is entirely rebuilt every winter by artists from all over the world using snow and ice chunks from the local Torne River. The hotel, famous for its unique concept and dazzling works of art, features the chic ICEBAR and an amazing assortment of rooms and suites for over 100 guests. Spend the night in Kiruna.
Day 3: Reindeer Farm and Sami Culture
Begin the day with a visit to a reindeer farm and meet Rudolf and his furry friends, followed by a traditional Lappish lunch in a cosy Sami tepee and a chance to try your hand at driving a reindeer sled! The farm also provides an exceptional opportunity to learn about the daily lives and history of Lapland’s Sami people, the native people of northern Scandinavia. The rest of the day is free to explore Kiruna, where you will spend one more night.
Day 4: Journey to the Lofoten Islands
Enjoy a satisfying breakfast at the hotel before boarding the morning train headed for the Norwegian town of Narvik, where the journey continues by bus to Svolvær, a quaint harbour town surrounded by impressive snow-capped mountains including the town’s most characteristic peak, the “Svolvær Goat”. Spend the night in Svolvær.
Day 5: Norwegian Coastal Voyage: Svolvær - Stamsund
The early part of the day is free to explore the Lofoten Islands, a historic fishing centre with breathtaking natural attractions, colorful, offbeat villages and whale safaris. An optional killer whale sightseeing excursion is available between December 15th and January 15th. In the evening, it’s time to board the Hurtigruten Ship for a spectacular voyage south along the stunning Norwegian coastline, through shallow waters and narrow channels with breathtaking sights. Spend the next 3 nights aboard the ship in a comfortable cabin with private facilities.
Day 6: Norwegian Coastal Voyage: Ornes - Sandnessjøen – Rørvik
As the ship crosses the Arctic Circle, the day is devoted to enjoying the amazing natural scenery with such highlights along the way as the famous Seven Sisters mountain range, the myth-inspiring mountain of Torghatten and the island of Sandnessjøen. The last port of the day is the charming town of Rørvik, where you can visit the award-winning Coastal Museum Norveg.
Day 7: Norwegian Coastal Voyage: Trondheim - Kristiansund - Ålesund
The ship docks early in the morning at the fascinating medieval city of Trondheim, where you have a few hours to explore the historic attractions. The voyage then continues along the Trondheim Fjord, past Hitra Island, with brief calls at the coastal towns of Kristiansund and Molde. The final port of the day is Ålesund, a city renowned for its Art Nouveau architecture and fairytale atmosphere. An optional shore excursion is available here.
Day 8: Norwegian Coastal Voyage Florø - Bergen
During the night, the ship calls at Torvik, Maløy, and Florø as the journey weaves through the islets before coming within view of its final destination--Bergen. Disembark at Bergen Harbor early in the afternoon and enjoy this amazing city at your own leisure. Bergen is full of life and culture with so much to see, including: Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage site; the vibrant fish and flower market; the cable cars offering stunning views; and much more. Spend the night at a hotel in central Bergen.
Day 9: Departure
Transfer from your hotel by taxi to Bergen Airport in time for your departure flight. Travelers departing in the afternoon have time to visit one of Bergen’s many museums, do some last-minute shopping or just relax at a café after this unforgettable holiday.
