This short getaway has “cool” written all over it! Spend four days sampling the Arctic way of life in extreme northern Norway with a snowmobile adventure, a king crab safari, and a northern lights expedition by dog sled with an authentic Sami dinner. For the ultimate Arctic experience, spend a magical night in a suite made of snow and ice at the famous Snow Hotel in Kirkenes.
Highlights: Kirkenes, dog-sledding, northern lights, Sami culture, Snow Hotel, Arctic cuisine and snowmobiling
Day 1: Huskies & Northern Lights
Arrive to Kirkenes Airport and transfer by shuttle to your hotel in Kirkenes, located 400 km (240 miles) above the Arctic Circle.
In the late afternoon, get ready for your first real Arctic adventure—a thrilling dog-sledding tour through the Pasvik Valley along Norway’s north-eastern border. If conditions are right, you may even see the northern lights dancing across the night sky!* This activity includes dinner in a traditional Sami tent, or lavvu.
*The northern lights are a natural phenomenon and sightings cannot be guaranteed.
Day 2: Snowmobiles & Snow Hotel
Your morning is free to relax or explore your surroundings at your leisure. After lunch, your next adventure is a guided snowmobile safari over the mountains to neighbouring Finland. Highlights of this tour include a visit to St. Georg’s Chapel (the smallest Russian chapel in Norway) and the Skoltefossen waterfall. Before crossing the border to the Finnish town of Nätämä, enjoy some light refreshments at the rustic Neiden Mountain Lodge.
Back in Kirkenes, you have an hour at the hotel to refresh and gather your belongings for your overnight at the Snow Hotel. Following your transfer to this unique hotel, which includes a short "kick-sled" ride, indulge in a tasty three-course meal by the fireplace at the on-site Gabba Restaurant and then prepare for an amazing night in your special suite made of snow and ice!*
*We will provide additional information regarding your overnight at the Snow Hotel, such as details about the facilities, what type of clothing to bring, what is provided by the hotel, etc.
Day 3: A Treat for the Taste Buds
Spend the morning warming up in the Snow Hotel’s sauna, enjoying a hearty breakfast and visiting the on-site reindeer park before returning to the hotel in Kirkenes. Shortly after lunchtime, it's time for your final Arctic activity—a King Crab Safari! Your entertaining fishermen-guides will take you by snowmobile-sleigh over the frozen sea to the spot where you will assist with pulling up today’s catch. The reward for your efforts will be an enticing snack of freshly cooked crab in a rustic fishing hut.
After returning to your hotel in Kirkenes, spend the rest of the evening at your leisure.
Day 4: Goodbye Kirkenes!
Today it’s time to pack up your souvenirs and say goodbye to your unforgettable Arctic adventures here in Kirkenes. Transportation from the hotel is provided to the Kirkenes Airport in time for your departure flight.
