Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Oslo, Norway’s capital
Today you will be arriving at Gardermoen airport. Upon arrival, you’ll be picked up by our driver and taken to your comfortable accommodation in central Oslo. After checking into your hotel you will have your information meeting with your Travel Consultant, who will provide you with your winter adventure itinerary. Later, you will have time off to enjoy some of Oslo’s many cafés, bars and restaurants.

Day 2: Glacier town of Svalbard

After enjoying breakfast, our driver will pick you up and take you back to the airport for your four-hour flight to Longyearbyen. Upon arrival at Longyear airport you will board the airport express bus for a 10 minute drive to your accommodation for the night. After check in you have free time to explore Longyearbyen on your own or maybe visit the Svalbard Museum.

Day 3: Snowmobiling at 78° North
Here’s where the action starts. In the morning, the tour leader will meet you for a short briefing. You will then be taken to the tour production department where you will be provided with extra warm clothing and equipment. Before setting out, the tour leader will give you a basic introduction on how to drive a snowmobile. Two persons will share on snowmobile. The route takes us through Adventdalen then onwards through Eskerdalen and onto Sassendalen. The guide will decide the route according to weather and snow conditions, and if the conditions allow we will go to the East Coast where we might, if we are lucky, be able to see the King of the Arctic - the polar bear! We arrive in the afternoon in Templefjorden, where Noorderlicht, the Dutch sailing ship is frozen into the ice, and waiting for us with a nice 3-course dinner. This is where we will spend the night in double cabins.

Day 4: Adventure and Tranquillity
After enjoying breakfast it is time to head back out to explore the wild nature of Svalbard. Today’s route and duration will depend on weather and conditions. Lunch will be served in field. After an eventful day we will park our snowmobiles for today and enjoy a 3 course dinner on the Noorderlicht Ship in the Ice, the world’s only hotel boat frozen solid into the ice. After enjoying dinner you have the rest of the evening to relax and enjoy the arctic night. Tranquility and peace are the perfect words to describe the feeling you have standing on the deck connecting with the arctic nature. Accommodation in DBL cabins on board the Ship.

Day 5: Back to Civilization
After breakfast, we make for the deserted Russian mining town of Pyramiden in the fjord of Billefjord which used to be home to 1,500 inhabitants. The town was abandoned in 1998 but the buildings and infrastructure are still intact. After a lunch in the field we will head back to Longyearbyen wehere you will stay for the night.

Day 6: Back to the Capital
After enjoying breakfast you will take the airport bus taking you back to Longyear airport where you will board your afternoon flight back to Oslo. After arriving at Gardermoen airport you will check into an airport hotel where you will be spending your last night in Norway.

Nooderlicht

A 46 meter long two-mast schooner, the Nooderlicht (Northern lights) is a sailing vessel from 1910. Originally built as a light ship in the Baltics, the Nooderlicht has gone through several adjustments and enhancements that make her specially equipped to sail in the arctic. However, she changed missions and hands many times and was left rusted and completely stripped. In 1992, Ted van Broeckhuysen and Gert Ritzema became smitten with the ship and lovingly restored her to better than new, ensuring that some original elements were used to retain a bit of her long history
