Introduction

This drive takes you to many of the biggest attractions in Norway, including Geilo, Hardangerfjord, Bergen, Voss, Balestrand, Jostedal Glacier, Geirangerfjord and more. This package includes accommodation in Oslo, Geilo, Bergen, Balestrand and Geiranger.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival/Oslo

Arrival at Gardermoen Airport; meet-and-greet, followed by transfer to your accommodation in the heart of Oslo City. If you arrive early, we recommend getting the Oslo Tourist Pass, which provides free travel on all public transport, free admission to over 25 museums and sites, discounts on further attractions and sightseeing, ice skate hire, restaurants and shops. Stay in a hotel or guesthouse in Oslo City Central.

Day 2: Delightful Mountain Villages

Start the day in Oslo by visiting the Norwegian Folk Museum and learn about the fascinating Viking culture. Leave Oslo around noon and start the drive through the Hallingdal Valley on your way to Geilo, a charming mountain village. On this scenic drive, you will pass delightful ski centres, and travel through beautiful forested dales and plateaus. Stay in a hotel in Geilo. Driving distance approx. 239 km.

Day 3: High Waterfalls and Deep Valleys

From Geilo, you will drive along the Hardangervidda National Park to the inner parts of the beautiful Hardangerfjord, with its spectacular views, on your way to Bergen. You will pass the first glacier on your tour, Hardanger Jøkulen, and visit the impressive waterfall, Vøringfossen—the highest in Norway, with a cascade if 182 metres. From Vøringfossen, you will continue through the dramatic and narrow Måbødalen valley, along Eidfjord, and end the day in Bergen, where you will overnight. Stay in a hotel in Bergen. Driving distance approx. 241km.

Day 4: Dynamic Culture in Bergen
Drive north to Bergen, where you will spend the day. Bergen is a wonderful city, full of life and culture. In this “must-visit” city, you will find Bryggen, listed by Unesco as a World Heritage site; exceptional old houses; a vibrant fish and flower market; cable cars offering stunning views; great museums; dynamic culture, and more. Stay in a hotel or guesthouse in Bergen.

Day 5: Norway’s Longest and Deepest Fjord

The day will start by heading to Norway’s adventure capital, Voss. In Voss, you can try out one of the many thrilling activities the town and its hinterland have to offer. Another option would be to visit the beautiful Aurlandsfjorden, to experience the truly enjoyable train ride between Flåm and Myrdal. Your journey will continue as you head on to the bottom of Sognefjorden—Norway’s longest and deepest fjord—taking in highlights such as the towns of Stalheim and Aurlandsdalen, before reaching Sogndal, your final destination for the day. Stay in a hotel in the Sogndal area. Driving distance approx. 219km.

Day 6: Emerald Green Geirangerfjord

Drive the Fjærlands Road to see Jostedal Glacier, “mainland Europe’s largest icecap”, and to visit the Norwegian glacier museum. Then continue via Lake Jolster, Loen and Stryn to Hellesylt, where you will take the ferry on the lovely Geiranger Fjord, which can easily be considered the most beautiful fjord in the world. Here you will find magnificent and impressive waterfalls, such as the Seven Sisters and Bridal Veil. Stay in a hotel in the Geiranger area. Driving distance approx. 215km.

Day 7: Return to Oslo

After a good breakfast, you will take on a full day’s drive from Geiranger back to Oslo. On your way to the capital, you will be able to stop at such highlights as the stave church in Lom and the Olympic town, Lillehammer. End a long but satisfying day by enjoying a good evening meal in one of Oslo’s fabulous restaurants. Stay in a hotel or guesthouse in Oslo City Central. Driving distance approx. 451km.

Day 8: Departure
Transfer by express train to Gardermoen International Airport. If your flight is in the afternoon, then you will have time for some last-minute shopping or a visit to one of Oslo’s many museums, or just relax at a café after an enjoyable holiday.

We have three categories for accommodation on this tour: Simple, Comfort and Quality.

Simple

Accommodation is in budget hotels, farmhouses, and well-appointed guesthouses. All rooms are with private shower or bath and WC. Breakfast is always provided and is included in the price. Bed linen is included in the price, but beds are not always made. In the more remote areas, most places of accommodation offer optional evening meals.

Comfort

These are in well-appointed comfort hotels. All rooms are with private shower or bath and WC. Breakfast is always provided and is included in the price. Many have their own restaurant.

Quality

These are in quality four-star hotels or the best hotels available at each location. All rooms are with private shower or bath and WC. All hotels provide breakfast (included in the price) and have their own restaurant.
