This name of this tour speaks for itself! This wide-ranging holiday takes you from the bustling capital city of Oslo to the pristine landscapes of Norway’s dramatic coastline with plenty of remarkable scenery, historical landmarks, and cultural experiences in between. This is your chance to explore Norway by land and sea and journey through the country’s most famous attractions—the majestic fjords. Highlights include: Olso, Trondheim, Bergen, coastal cruise, fjord boat tour, train adventures on renowned railways, UNESCO World Heritage sites, charming seaside villages, and much more!
Day 1: Welcome to Oslo
Arrive to Gardermoen Airport in Oslo. For an easy and comfortable way to get to your hotel in central Oslo, we are happy to arrange a private transfer for you (optional; see details here).
If you arrive early, we suggest buying an Oslo Pass for free travel on all public transit along with free admission to over 30 museums and attractions plus special offers on entertainment, restaurants, shops and more. The pass can be purchased at tourist information centres or at most hotels and major attractions in the city. Spend the night at a hotel in central Oslo.
Day 2: Railway Journey to Trondheim
Oslo-Trondheim train (08:07-14:50).
Head to Oslo Central Station early in the morning to board the Dovrebanen train, which passes over the Dovre mountain plateau through historic towns and nature preservations. As the second highest line after the Bergen Railway, the Dovre Railway includes great variations in terrain and altitude along with 8 kilometres of tunnels. The journey concludes with a steep, curvy descent down to the lowlands where Trondheim is located. Take the rest of the evening to discover the sights of this Medievel city, including Bakklandet, an idyllic neighborhood full of history and culture. Spend the night in Trondheim.
Day 3: Exploring the Majestic Fjords
Coastal cruise (departure 10:00): includes overnight stay on board. Enjoy a Scandinavian breakfast in Trondheim before boarding the Hurtigruten cruise ship at the city harbour, where the voyage commences along the Trondheim Fjord and past Hitra Island, with brief calls at the coastal towns of Kristiansund and Molde. The final port of the day is Ålesund, a city renowned for its Art Nouveau architecture and fairytale atmosphere. An optional shore excursion may be available here. Spend the night in a cabin on the cruise ship.
Day 4: Sail to Historic Bergen
Arrival in Bergen (14:30) During the night, the ship calls at Torvik, Maløy, and Florø as the journey weaves through islets and stunning landscapes before coming within view of its final destination—Bergen. Here you will disembark early in the afternoon to enjoy some leisure time as you wish. We recommend a ride on the "Bergens Expressen" mini-train tour, which offers amazing views of the city centre from Fjellveien (“the mountain road”) including the Maria Church, the Rosenkrantz Tower, and King Håkon’s Hall. Spend the night at a hotel in central Bergen.
Day 5: The Capital of the Fjords
Bergen, the “capital of the fjords”, is Norway’s second largest city yet it retains the atmosphere and charms of a small town. From your centrally-located hotel, you have easy access to the cultural and historical highlights of this must-see city. Visit Bryggen, a UNESCO World Heritage site, which dates back 900 years as a major Hanseatic trading centre. You can also catch a glimpse of local culture at the lively Fish Market or ride the Fløibanen Funicular to Mount Fløyen to enjoy the panoramic view of the city. Spend the night in Bergen.
Day 6: Land and Sea Adventure
Bergen – Flåm (08:40 – 13:40): includes train from Bergen to Voss, bus from Voss to Gudvangen, and cruise from Gudvangen to Flåm.
From Bergen, the early Bergensbanen train carries you to Voss, where you will then board a bus bound for Gudvangen. Before driving down Stalheimskleiva, Northern Europe’s steepest stretch of road, the bus stops at the Stalheim Hotel, which offers an incredible panorama over the fjords.
Upon reaching Gudvangen, you will embark on a short, scenic fjord cruise to Flåm, including a trip through Nærøyfjord, the narrowest fjord in Europe. This UNESCO World Heritage site is perhaps the most breathtaking section of Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, with its mighty peaks, tumbling waterfalls, and small farms clinging to the steep mountainsides. Finally, the boat sails up Aurlandsfjord to Flåm, a charming village where you will enjoy dinner at the local restaurant. (Included in the price.) Spend the night in Flåm.
Day 7: The Flåm Railway Experience
Flåm – Oslo (17:00 – 22:32): includes Myrdal station transfer.
Spend the early part of your day exploring the village of Flåm, including the Flåm Railway Documentation Centre by the Flåm Station, where you can learn about the construction of the world’s steepest railway track. Admission is free.
Later in the afternoon, you’ll get to experience the famous Flåm Railway firsthand as it climbs 900 metres over a span of 20 kilometres up the winding track to the Myrdal Station. Here you will switch to the Bergensbanen train that carries you over the mountainous rooftop of Norway on your way to Oslo. This ride, voted one of the 20 best railways in the world, will take you through the charming villages of Geilo and Gol before concluding in Oslo, where you will spend your last night in this amazing country.
Day 8: Departure from Oslo
For transportation to Gardermoen Airport, we are happy to arrange a private transfer for you (optional; see details here). If your flight is in the afternoon, you have more opportunity to do some last-minute shopping, visit one of Oslo’s many museums or just relax at a café after this enjoyable holiday.

Allowed us to experience the best Norway has to offer...
We chose Nordic Visitor because of the excellent range of activities offered. The itinerary was really well thought out and planned, and the tour allowed us to experience the best Norway has to offer. The personal meeting at the hotel [on arrival] is an excellent service—it allows you to ask all the questions you need, and the phone was an inspired idea—it’s really nice to have that facility.
Brilliant, Palmi. Thanks!
P.S. Iceland is next...
